  • There are different places where you can learn a language by talking to a native speaker.

Some online sites are Italkie or Preply however these are paying and don't work on a "language exchange base".

For a free tandem system where two language students learn from each other check out our own tandem system or some other tandem systems offered by initiatives at the institute (AMEF for French).

  • Italki is a platform where you can book lessons with an online teacher or simply have conversations with native speakers from anywhere in the world

You will have to pay a small fee for each hour of conversation usually ranging from 4-8 CHF depending on the certification level of a teacher.

The platform is highly flexible, offering the convenience of lessons bookable on the spot and access to people available at any time: An excellent way to fit conversation practice into your daily routine.

  • Preply is similar to Italki, but with a key difference: on Preply, you purchase Preply points, which are then used to book lessons. In contrast, Italki allows you to pay directly for each lesson.

Aside from this difference, both platforms operate on a similar concept. Choosing between them often comes down to which platform offers better options for the language you wish to learn.

  • Quizlet is a flashcard app that allows you to create your own language learning sets. We highly recommend paying attention to the words you often look up or struggle to recall during conversations in your target language. Record these words and use the app to review them regularly—it’s an effective way to build and retain vocabulary.

    But that’s not all!
We’ll soon be offering Quizlet sets designed to complement our lessons, giving you even more tools to support your learning journey.
